When you’re thinking of building a new home, visiting a display village is a great way to get the ball rolling and ultimately choose the right builder for you. It’s also a great place to seek out design inspiration and experience what different layouts and features can do for you. Walking through the display homes can give you the feeling of what it’ll be like to step foot into your next new home.
In our current display homes we have a number of design features that have become very popular in our latest builds. So, if you’re thinking of building a new home, check out these highly sought after display home features to add them to your new home wish-list.
1. Freestanding tub
The freestanding tub has been featured in a number of our recent display homes and has proven to be a very popular addition to a number of the new homes we’ve built over the past couple of years. Freestanding tubs come in a variety of shapes, sizes and installations. As an example, check out these tubs in our Elliot Springs and Harris Crossing display homes.
2. Make-up station
On display at Elliot Springs and North Shore at the moment are two master suites with walk-in robes that feature a sit-down make-up station. Our Elliot Springs make-up station is equipped with feature strip lighting for extra lighting to the front of your face.
3. Corner Windows
Corner windows allow for more natural light which makes the room feel bigger and brighter. Paired with floor-to-ceiling curtains this design element can become a stand-out feature of any room.
4. Floor to Ceiling Curtains
Floor to ceiling curtains add a sense of height and make a room appear larger than it really is. Used as a feature, floor to ceiling curtains can draw the eye to a certain part of the room, add elegance or grandness to a space, or become like a coloured/textured feature wall – without painting your walls!
5. Wet Room
Wet rooms have become very popular in our new home builds for their flexibility and space saving qualities. Most commonly we’re building wet rooms without any glass dividing panels which really open up the bathroom space for room to move.
6. Textured Wallpaper Feature Walls
Adding a feature wall can add a little something extra to your rooms. Adding a feature wall with patterns or textures can add warmth and character to a room. We’ve used wallpaper to decorate entry halls, lounge rooms, and master bedrooms.
7. Island bench shelving
An island bench is a great way to create an open plan living space, but make the most of it, and make it functional. The back side of an island bench can have a built-in hideaway for stools, hidden cupboards for extra storage, or built-in shelving like this display home at Harris Crossing.
8. Built-in desks to bedrooms
Most kids need a space to work, draw and put their devices, by building in desks to bedrooms you remove the need for extra furniture in the room. Our cabinet-makers can create built-in desks customised to your needs. Keep them simple, or add drawers and cupboards as required. And, our electricians can even add data points and USB charging points above or below the desk for extra convenience.
9. Hanging rail in the laundry
A hanging rail is a great way to hang up dedicates that need to dry out of the sun, or those must-have items like school uniforms – especially when rain season hits. Installing a hanging rail reduces the need to have air-drying racks throughout your house and can be made to fit any overhead gap.
10. Built-in outdoor seating
Built-in outdoor seating is a popular feature for our North Queensland lifestyle. Added to the alfresco area of the home provides low maintenance furniture and landscaping elements. Outdoor seating can be customised to the size and shape of your backyard, and with a variety of materials to use you can build something to suit the style of your home.
11. Built-in drawers to robes
Forget buying furniture and hoping it fits in your new home, have our cabinetmakers build a custom robe with drawers, shelves and rails to hold all of your belongings. Having built-in drawers is proving to be a very popular feature with our clients as it stores the smaller items and hides away the clutter.
